CAAEYC San Diego-Imperial Chapter Membership Grows by One!

By Michelle Soltero, Vice President and Membership Committee Chair

Introducing Ms. Sussannah Cook-Taylor, Board President of the CAAEYC San Diego-Imperial Chapter, who highlighted the Board of Directors decision in selecting this individual with a NAEYC/CAAEYC premium membership. The premium membership includes three to four NAEYC publications selected by the National organization. They used the following criteria when identifying an individual.

  • Someone who has participated with us and volunteered in our conferences and events
  • Someone who is interested and motivated to improve their practice in the field and would take of advantages of the NAEYC resources through this membership

Sussannah is currently the Assistant Director at the San Diego Jewish Academy of the Early Childhood Education Program. Most recently, she was the Interim Director of this program. She has been in the field for 20 years and has been involved on the Board since 2016. With her leadership experiences she is poised to mentor new teachers like Ally. She said, "Ally has a really special presence in connecting with children and supporting her families in a genuine way."

Meet Ms. Alejandra Felix, recipient of a one-year premium membership compliments of the CAAEYC San Diego-Imperial Chapter Board of Directors.

Ms. Alejandra (Ally) Felix has a degree in Science Education and studied in Baja, California. Alejandra has seven years' experience as a teacher. She immigrated to the United States five years ago with a desire to learn more about early childhood education. For the past three years, she has worked for the San Diego Jewish Academy, San Diego County. Her classroom consists of older toddlers, 24-month-olds, where she is the lead teacher.

Alejandra shared that English was not her first language. However, she remembered when she attended college classes and other professional development activities, she was welcomed by her teachers, classmates and colleagues.

Alejandra heard about opportunities to volunteer at the CAAEYC San Diego-Imperial Chapter conference where she has volunteered for the last two years. She enjoys meeting new people, attending workshops to learn more about ways to support children in her classroom. She is excited about learning more and using this new knowledge with children immediately. Congratulations, Ally!
