The beloved Queen of Soul famously known as Aretha Franklin just recently transitioned on her ancestral path. Aretha Franklin rose to fame despite having two children by the age of 14. The rendition of RESPECT was championed by many as the anthem of Civil Rights and feminist movement. Queen Aretha was an individual who overcame many obstacles in her life.

The Diversity-in-Action committee is looking to diversify the committee to do respectable and honorable work on behalf of California Association for the Education of Young Children (CAAEYC). Efforts are being made to produce a position statement that best reflects children and families in California. There has never been a more crucial time to establish the proposed mandate than now. The committee would be better suited if there were more diverse individuals to truly represent the organization.

Aretha Franklin also sang "My Country Tis of Thee" at the inaugural ceremony of the 44th President of the U.S. Ironically, this song was originally written and sung to the tune of God Save the Queen, which was a British national anthem. It is time to take a stand and demonstrate respect for our children and families in turmoil. We want to make sure that there is maximized inclusion throughout CAAEYC on behalf of all the babies we toil for on a daily basis.

The Diversity committee is looking for leaders with "Respect" who we can embrace and collaborate with to breakdown the negative barriers. Please come forward or suggest any leaders who would be ideal Diversity-in-Action contributors. You can communicate with the CAAEYC office or email me directly at mwalimurodney@cs.com if you are interested.

Yours in Unity,
Rodney West
