An Essential Plea

February is the month proclaimed for Valentine’s Day whereas individuals embrace love and affection for one another. The month is also recognized as American Heart month where individuals advocate on behalf of increasing trends of cardiovascular disease. Many supporters wear red to raise awareness of saving lives.

The Diversity-in-Action committee members are opening their hearts to the membership of CAAEYC to further champion their cause for a more inclusive and diverse committee that best represents California. Newly elected Governor Gavin Newsom has opened his heart to make early childhood a priority by introducing a budget to best serve the needs of young children of the state. The diversity committee would like to be prominent first responders to the membership to curtail any cardiac episodes that could possibly hinder the growth and relationships of the organization.

A blueprint that accurately depicts CAAEYC from a diversity standpoint is essential. It is believed that California could be at the forefront of all our other constituents when it comes to diversity. A plea is being made to the membership for more leaders to come forward and collaborate on the diversity committee. NAEYC currently has a draft position statement. However, more input is needed by California to incorporate their stand that best reflects characteristics of our golden state.

It is important that we resuscitate current negative trends in order to best serve the membership. Undivided hearts are needed right now to do the important work for all stakeholders of CAAEYC.

Yours in Unity,
