Gaining Focus and Guidance

The Central California Chapter recently asked Cary Larson-McKay to visit us and share her insights in the form of a board orientation. We had found that within our board we had several questions regarding our governance as a chapter as well as how that governance had to align with the state. Due to the fact that we had so many new board members this year, we were finding that we were feeling a bit overwhelmed.

After emailing Cary our concerns, she agreed to come to Fresno one Saturday morning and support our needs as a chapter. During this three-hour board orientation, we had the opportunity to ask all of our questions, receive reminders as to the reason behind our actions as a board, and participate in interactive team building games. Due to the fact that we had a few board members who were not present, Cary was kind enough to agree to being videotaped so that we could share the information with the rest of our board.

As a result of Cary’s “board orientation” we were able to gain focus and guidance as a board, which has since then greatly helped us work towards achieving our goal as an organization, to support early educators within our community. I would highly recommend that any other chapters that are interested in reaching out for support consider doing so, just look at how much fun we had!
