Nominations and Elections

Our Nominations and Elections process for the CAEYC Governing Board is a year-round process. There are many critical steps to be taken to find ideal candidates to put on the ballot for each position. This year we are in need of candidates for the President-Elect and Secretary positions.

Eligibility for these positions are as follows:

  • Been an active member of CAEYC for at least 5 years preceding nomination;
  • Served on a CAEYC Committee within the past 5 years;
  • Served at least one two-year term, in any position, on the Board of CAEYC within the past 5 years;
  • Leadership experience and/or strong leadership potential with commitment and contributions to the early care and education field;
  • Understanding and familiarity with CAEYC’s mission, philosophy, goals and code of ethics;
  • Broad knowledge and awareness of the issues facing the field and ability to conceptualize the appropriate role for the Association;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to objectively consider various perspectives to guide major policy decisions of the Association;
  • Awareness and familiarity of public policy issues as it relates to the field of early care and education;
  • Personal time to provide vision and leadership to serve effectively as a Board member;
  • Strong record of commitment to continue making CAEYC a high performing, inclusive organization; and,
  • Specific skills and qualifications appropriate to the relevant Board position description of responsibilities

The President-Elect position is for two years, July 1, 2017-June 30, 2019, however, leads to a two-year term as President and then Past President. As President-Elect there is the opportunity to shadow the President, gaining insight and mentoring for stepping into the President position. President-Elect also chairs the Nominations and Elections Committee for identifying candidates for Governing Board positions.

The Secretary position is for two years, July 1, 2017-June 30, 2019 and involves participation in CAEYC Governing Board meetings and teleconferences as well as CAEYC Events when possible. The Secretary is responsible for taking minutes at the meetings and written communications from CAEYC. The Secretary also coordinates with the CAEYC staff to gather submissions for electronic and print publications.

Noting that previous experience on a CAEYC committee and CAEYC Board is a requirement for these positions, you can help by encouraging members that meet the qualifications to apply. If you know anyone who would be a strong candidate for these positions, please contact the CAEYC office so we can contact them and begin conversations. Making a nomination does not commit the person to applying for the position, however it gives the individual and the CAEYC Governing Board the opportunity to talk about it.

Participating on a CAEYC committee or in a board position can be very rewarding as you network with others, develop leadership skills, participate in planning events and opportunities for joining advocacy efforts. Participation at the state level offers mentoring and development of skills and understanding to take back as a leader in other organizations. Volunteering for the CAEYC Governing Board is a decision of great commitment of time and activity; and it is greatly valued. If you are ready to become an active member of a CAEYC Committee or want more information, please contact the CAEYC office.
