PEACH (Partnerships for Education, Articulation, and Coordination through Higher Education) is a cross-sector, cross-segmental higher education systems’ initiative. The PEACH collaborative includes cross-sector 2-year, 4-year and graduate level EC/CD program faculty partners as well as representatives from allied professional development programs, professional organizations, and advocacy organizations interested in collaborating to accomplish PEACH goals.  The mission of PEACH is to strengthen and support academic professional development pathways and related educational programs for the early childhood (EC) workforce throughout California in order to support children’s learning, growth, and family engagement.

PEACH began in 2011 as one of First 5 LA’s funded components of the Los Angeles Early Care and Education Workforce Consortium. The PEACH LA collaborative includes early childhood/child development (EC/CD) faculty representatives from 25 Los Angeles County institutions of higher education (IHEs) including 15 community colleges, 6 California State Universities, 3 private universities, and UCLA Extension Early Childhood Education Program. Statewide PEACH includes early childhood/child development (EC/CD) faculty representatives from institutions of higher education (IHEs) including California Community Colleges, California State Universities, University of California campuses, and private IHEs.  Through PEACH’s collaborative, inclusive approach over the last nine years, PEACH has worked closely with over 80 early childhood related organizations.

The PEACH Sustainability Group consists of a small group of PEACH Partners (ECE/CD Higher Education Faculty) who seeks funding to sustain the activities related to the mission and vision.

PEACH is seeking a Grant Writer to collaborate with the PEACH Sustainability Group in the development and submission for 2-5 grant proposals depending on amount of funding by June 30, 2021. Grant Writer Job Responsibilities:  In collaboration with the PEACH Sustainability Group, the Grant Writer:

  • Utilizes first, second, and third person sources to generate a working understanding of the mission, vision, goals, outcomes, and programs of PEACH
  • Communicates and builds relationships with potential funders
  • Establishes a grant development timeline in accordance with the guidelines set by the funder
  • Gathers proposal information by identifying sources of information, identifying and communicating issues associated with proposals, and coordinating submissions.
  • Clarifies opportunities, studies requests for proposal (RFPs), and attends PEACH Sustainability meetings.
  • Collaborates with PEACH Sustainability Group (which meets virtually every two weeks)
  • Works with project director to develop proposal components including project need, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, methods, timeline, budget, and evaluation plan.
  • Writes, revises, edits grant proposal, including project narrative and all required attachments, including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials.
  • Coordinates submission of grant
  • Serves as the primary point of contact with the funding source, coordinates follow-up communications with the Principle Investigator

Grant Writer Qualifications / Skills:

  • Access to grant funding data bases to identify potential sources of funding in support of the mission and programs of PEACH, communicating the pros and cons of each source to members of the Sustainability Group and prioritizing in order of relevance and fit
  • Available to meet regularly by zoom and/or in person maintaining safe social distancing
  • Professional communication skills to build relationships with funders and PEACH
  • Written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize information
  • Technical skills (Familiarity with navigating grant data base and evaluation plan development)
  • Process documentation (execute process, steps needed for task)
  • Time management skills
  • Coordination and collaboration skills
  • Strategic planning
  • Ability to learn about and act upon the needs of both PEACH and the funder

Preferred Education, Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in grant writing, prospect research, general fundraising or a minimum of 2 years comparable and transferable skills acquired in a professional setting
  • Familiarity with higher education and the field of early childhood

 Independent Contractor Fee

  • The grant writer would be an independent consultant. The contractor fee is $20,000 for the above scope of work.
