The Lake School, a nationally recognized, small, private play-based preschool located in the historic and beautiful Lake Merritt neighborhood of Oakland, is seeking an experienced and qualified candidate for the position of Head of School.

We recognize that the wholesome development of the child depends upon how well the Head of School, parents and staff work together.
The Head of School will embrace, honor and support the school’s mission: to provide a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment in which children develop socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically.
Key responsibilities include:
Manage and administer the school, including licensing, enrollment and marketing
Recruit, manage, support and develop school staff of 5-10 teachers who co-teach
Provide lesson planning support & curriculum implementation
Build and maintain positive relationships with current and prospective families
Develop and maintain good relationships between the staff and parents
Maintain financial records, prepare budgets and oversee finances of the school
Work closely with the Executive Board and Parent Board
Maintain and advance high standards of care and accreditations
Maintain safe and healthy environment for students and staff
Minimum qualifications include:
BA in Child Development or Early Childhood Education from an accredited college; Masters or other advanced degree preferred
Minimum of 5 years verifiable experience in early childhood education, including at least 2 years teaching experience at a licensed child care center and experience teaching or developing a play-based or project approach curriculum
Passion for early childhood education, solid understanding of child development and love of small children
Strong administrative, organizational and time management skills
Excellent communication, writing, presentation and interpersonal skills
Supervisory experience and leadership ability to create and maintain excellent collaborative working environment for all staff members
Knowledge of and ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations and interface with the California Department of Social Services and other governmental agencies
Demonstrated ability to maintain financial records and budgets
Compensation package includes a salary commensurate with experience, benefits and paid holidays. The position is Full-time and will start no later than May 1, 2019.
